Admin Performs Last Rites Of Covid Positive Deceases After Family Members Refused To Claim Body

On Dc’s Directions Officials Along With Crematorium's Committee Members Ensured Cremation Of A Migrant Worker In A Dignified Manner

Having performed the last rites of a suspected Covid-19 patient at village Barring on Saturday, District Administration today once again ensured the cremation of a migrant laborer in a dignified manner at the Maqsudan Crematorium.On DC’s directives Sub Divisional Magistrate Dr. Jai Inder Singh asked the management committee of Baba Dada Mal Shamshan Bhumi Sudhar Sabha to make arrangements for the last rites of 40 years old deceased Jai Kishore Yadav, a migrant laborer originally from Darbhanga, Bihar.Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that the deceased was admitted to the Civil Hospital Jalandhar on April 28, 2021, and was tested positive for CoronaVirus adding that the next day the patient succumbed to the virus. His body was kept in the mortuary by the hospital authorities after the death but nobody came forward to claim it, he added.Mr. Thori said that the Police officials traced the whereabouts of the family of the deceased, who when contacted, refused to claim the body and requested to cremate him as per the medical protocol. 

A written statement of the family members was also sent by the local Panchayat to the city police, after which directions for the cremation were issued to the officials.Pointing out further, SDM Dr. Jai Inder Singh stated that the body of the deceased was wrapped by the health authorities according to protocol under the supervision of Dr. Kamraj at the local civil hospital and then taken to the Baba Daba Mal cremation ground for the cremation, where Raju Mago, President of the committee along with other members Som Raj, Gurdial Bhatti, Neeraj Jassal, Raj kumar Mahajan, and revenue officials performed the last rites in a dignified manner.Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori exhorted people to dial control room numbers 0181-2224417 and 0181-2224848 for any kind of assistance in the cremation of persons, where no one from the family or society comes forward. He said that the district administration was working round the clock to assist people during this ongoing health crisis and solicited people's support to tide over this catastrophic second wave of the pandemic.
