Mayor Jeeti Sidhu visited crematorium amid rising deaths due to corona epidemic

In view of the increasing number of deaths due to corona in Mohali and for their proper cremation, a team of Mohali Municipal Corporation led by Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti visited the crematorium and gave instructions to the authorities. Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Municipal Commissioner Kamal Garg, SE Sanjay Kanwar, SDO Sukhwinder Singh were also present during this visit.Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu said that as per the information given to him by the Mohali Municipal Corporation officials, about 8 bodies were cremated daily in Mohali cemetery but this number has increased from 18 to 20 during this epidemic of Corona. He said that this was also due to the fact that the patients of Corona who came to Mohali from different cities and died in Mohali were also being cremated at the Mohali crematorium.He said that there was an electric crematorium in Mohali where four to five bodies were being cremated daily. He said that apart from this temporary arrangements were also being made For cremation of dead bodies.Mayor Jeeti Sidhu said that CCTV cameras have been installed in the crematorium and he has personally requested the Mohali Industries Association to provide another funeral van so that the bodies could be taken to the crematorium with full respect.Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu further said that PPE kits, sanitizers and masks have been provided by the Mohali Municipal Corporation at the crematorium and strict instructions have been issued to the cremators at the crematorium to ensure that any family visiting the crematorium wouldn't be asked to bring the above items. He said that the Medical Officer of Mohali Municipal Corporation has been appointed as the coordinator in this regard.
