Geelani criticizing administration and police for continuously keeping under house arrest

Strongly criticizing the administration and Jammu and Kashmir police for continuously keeping Syed Ali Shah Geelani under house arrest and termed the decision as dictatorial and an act of political retribution. Spokesman Ayaz Akbar said the government is scared of the popular appeal of Syed Ali Geelani, hence it’s using every repressive measure to prevent 83 year old leader from performing the religious duties, including Friday prayers and other social and private activities. Referring to the statement of police chief that there are no curbs on activities of Syed Ali Geelani and is free to move and perform religious activities. On Friday in order to offer Friday prayers, a contingent of police arrested him and shifted to Humhama police station. 

Syed Ali Geelani while protesting against the highhandedness of police ridiculed the statement of police chief and said that the statement is a blatant lie and added if police chief was true then why he was arrested. Syed Ali Geelani added that he had no intention to address any public rally and simply wanted to offer Friday prayers.Syed Ali Geelani expressed his anguish and added that since last two and half year he is continuously under house arrest and on the other hand administration has filed an affidavit in court that there are no curbs and restrictions against Syed Ali Geelani and is a free to venture about. By preventing me from my day to day obligations, virtually the administration and ruling alliance has accepted political defeat. He said house arrests, preventing leaders from performing religious duties and arbitrary detentions were some of the undemocratic measures taken by the government against the pro-freedom leaders.

The freedom struggle of Kashmiris will never be suppressed by these measures added Syed Ali Geelani. While addressing the media persons Syed Ali Geelani paid rich tributes to Famous human rights activist Shaheed Asiya Jeelani on her 9th anniversary who achieved her martyrdom at kupwara in a mine blast. Syed Ali Geelani reiterated his shutdown call for Saturday against the supply of spurious drugs to Kashmir hospitals. The profreedom leader described shutdowns as the “only option available with Kashmiris to register protest against state terrorism .Strongly criticizing the authorities for unleashing the arrest spree, Syed Ali Geelani demanded the immediate release of all political detainees.
