The Department of History and Centre On Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev University organized a National  Webinar on the theme “Baba Banda Singh Bahadhur: Struggle and Legacy”  dedicated to the 350th Birth Anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji on the initiative of Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice –Chancellor. On this occasion three eminent speakers on the subject spoke on various aspects of the life and struggle of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.The Webinar started with introduction of the theme of the by Prof. Amarjit Singh, Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, who said that Banda was the first to challenge the authority of the Mughal Empire in last 750 year history of the country.  Prof. (Dr) Jaspal Kaur Dhanju, former professor and Head, Department of History, Punjabi University, Patiala said struggle of Banda should not be seen as struggle between Islam and Sikhism, but struggle against oppression of  Mughal Empire.  She analysed Persian, English Gurmukhi and Rajasthani sources on Banda Singh Bahadhur.  The second speaker  Prof.   Jasbir Singh Sabar  wass former professor and Head, Department of Guru Nanak  Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University He spoke on the life and Legacy of Banda Singh Bahadhur and argued that  during struggle against the Mughal authority,  Banda Bahadhur emerged as an example of religious tolerance.   Amanpreet Singh from Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, North Campus, Delhi University, Delhi argued that it  was Banda’s inclusive approach which made people belonging to different casts, religions and regions respond to the call of Banda Singh Bahadur and his a model of social and resistance movements. Prof. Amandeep Bal, Head Department of History introduced and thanked the speakers. Dr. Shifali and Dr. Harneet Kaur moderated the session.
