3-day Mela Patt begins at Bhaderwah

Celebration held with limited gathering to avoid Corona threat

The Mela Patt, which is celebrated every year for three days to commemorate the historic meet between Mughal emperor Akbar and King Nagpal of Bhaderwah in the 16th century at Delhi, started here on Sunday.This year the fair witnessed limited participation as per the instructions issued by district administration Doda under the supervision of DDC Doda Dr Sagar D Doifode, due to Coronavirus threat. Only locals, in a limited number and following covid protocols, participated in the fair, which is devoted to Lord Vaskui Naag, the presiding deity of Bhaderwah Valley.The Mela is organised every year after five days of the conclusion of annual Kailash Yatra and people from all walks of life participate in the fair.The traditional Dheku dance, a unique folk dance of the area, is a regular feature during the Mela.Meanwhile, the DDC has appealed the people to maintain social distancing while performing rituals at places of worship and follow the necessary instructions issued by the District Administration with regard to the Covid-19 protection.
