Dr. Gurpal Singh Walia appointed as Director, Punjab Animal Husbandry Department

The Punjab Government has appointed Dr. Gurpal Singh Walia as Director of the Punjab Animal Husbandry Department. He assumed charge today at Livestock Bhawan.Disclosing about the future plans of the department after assuming office, Dr. Walia said that more concrete steps would be taken to implement government schemes and progrmmes at ground level to promote livestock farming in the state. He said that to double the income of the livestock farmers the department would provide support and services at the door steps of the farmers.He further said that in addition to this, to keep livestock free from diseases and to improve the quality of livestock breed, the department would run special campaigns. He also said that in order to further boost the economy of the state, goat, pig and poultry farming would also be encouraged.It's worth mentioning that Dr. Walia was earlier posted as Joint Director at the Headquarters and also worked as Deputy Director, Barnala and Fatehgarh Sahib.Dr. Walia did his BVSC (1985) and MVS (1997) from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and was in the merit list during his post graduation.
