Food Safety Department conducting regular checks to ensure quality eatables for consumers: Kahan Singh Pannu

"The Food Safety Department is fully committed to provide top quality eatables to the people of the State and as part of this commitment, during the corona virus pandemic, the Food Safety Officers of the department conducted regular checks on the shops selling eatables and sensitized the shopkeepers to dispose off the expired stuff, sell quality products and desist from hoarding." Disclosing this here today, the Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Punjab Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu said that the shopkeepers were also directed to observe strictly the social distancing guidelines, wear masks and use hand sanitizers, Wash hands for 20 seconds as often as possible. Divulging further, Mr. Pannu said that from 1st May to 31st May, the food safety teams conducted checks at 1451 shops and disposed off expired foodstuff including 22 quintal 66 Kg fruits and vegetables, Milk and Milk Products, 419 litres of the cold drinks, Oil, 167 Namkeen packets, biscuits and Masala. The teams have also held meetings with the hotel, dhaba and the halwai associations and provides them training to prepare good quality food materials as per the directions of the State Government. "Nobody would be allowed to sell substandard eatables which play with the lives of the people. The rules and regulations of the Punjab Government in this regard would be strictly enforced.", said Mr. Pannu.
