Ladakh readies for International Yoga Day, Div Com reviews preparations

Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas chaired a meeting to review preparations for the International Yoga Day in Ladakh to be celebrated on 21st of June.  This year’s theme is ‘Yoga at home and Yoga with family’.Deputy Commissioner Leh Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Tsering Motup, Director National Research Institute for Sowa Rigpa Leh, Padma Gyurmet, Assistant Director Information Leh Tsewang Gyaltsan, Tehsildar Kargil Salim Wazir, District Coordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra Leh Tajamul Aara, and known filmmaker and yoga expert Phuntsog Ladakhi were also present during the meeting.Biswas stated that in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic situation, while there will be no public gathering during the celebration of International Yoga Day but it will be celebrated in every home all over Ladakh with equal enthusiasm.

Deliberating on various aspects of celebration of Yoga Day, Biswas assigned various tasks such as spreading awareness to the general public, organizing the event in villages by yoga trained volunteers, the involvement of volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra under the guidance of both the Deputy Commissioners of Leh and Kargil. The Sub-Divisional Magistrates would coordinate the event at the sub-divisional levels in both the districts, informed Biswas.Div Com Biswas also stressed for the involvement of prominent citizens of the region and said that personalities from various backgrounds such as religious leaders, elected representatives, bureaucrats, educationists and likes would be invited to join the celebration of yoga day with family members at their homes.Deputy Commissioners were also advised for holding video yoga contests or photo contests of the yoga day celebrations for school children, wherein the best video or photo winners may be felicitated.Divisional Commissioner also instructed the Information Departments to spread awareness about the yoga protocol of AYUSH Ministry and spread information about various asanas through videos produced by the National Institute for Sowa Rigpa, Ladakh.
