DC Asks SDMs To Ensure Completion Of Flood Protection Work By End Of This Month

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates to make sure that the Flood protection work in their respective Sub Divisions was completed by the end of this month.Chairing a high level meeting of all the departments to review arrangements for flood control here today at District Administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates to daily monitor the progress of the work and submit a detailed report regarding these to him. He said that any sort of laxity in this work would not be tolerated and the work must be completed in the time bound manner. Mr. Sharma also said that every effort should be made to ensure that flood like situation was averted in the district.The Deputy Commissioner also asked the officers to ensure that the duty roster of staff to be appointed in the control room should be finalized at the earliest. He said that in order to effectively monitor the staff the senior officers of the administration would also be appointed on rotation basis to check this control room. 

Reviewing the Flood Control arrangements, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration should remain fully vigil, so as to avoid any sort of untoward incident due to ensuing rainy season. Mr. Sharma also directed the officials to strengthen flood prone sensitive places to minimize damage in the possibility of any flood. He said that the district administration has already made adequate arrangements to meet any sort of situation in wake of rainy season.The Deputy Commissioner said that the contingent plan has been prepared by every department and they were fully equipped to tackle any sort of situation.  Mr. Sharma said that evacuation plan, in case of flood, has already been finalized and the sensitive places have been identified along with the safe places where the residents of flood prone areas would be shifted, if required. He also reviewed the arrangements made by Food & Supply, Irrigation, Power, Drainage, Municipal Corporation and Police department for tackling the situation, in case of floods. Mr. Sharma asked the Drainage department to immediately start the work of cleaning of all the drains in the district.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Rahul Sindhu, Mr. Gautam Jain, Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Dr. Jai Inder Singh and Dr. Vineet Kumar, Superintendent of Police Mr. RPS Sandhu, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. HS Bhalla, District Revenue Officer Mr. Jashanjit Singh and others were also present.
