Authorities have to call in police to shift five members of a family declared positive for Covid-19 from Mansbal Quarantine Centre to Isolation Centre Ganderbal. Ironically, this Margund Kangan family was declared negative earlier and they were shocked after being informed that they are positive and not negative as have been declared earlier. Scores of Covid-19 suspects are in quarantine at Mansbal School Ganderbal here in Central Kashmir. Five members of a Margund family including mother, her son and three daughters were also in this quarantine centre. Family members told news agency KNT that their samples were collected on June 1 and yesterday they were declared negative. “We all the five members of the family were declared negative and asked to stay in the quarantine centre for a period of 10 days.” “On Sunday morning we were shocked when authorities informed us that we all are Covid-19 positive and thus have to shift to isolation centre Dudharham. We were forcibly evicted from the quarantine centre,” they said. The family members created ruckus in the quarantine centre while people staying in the quarantine centre justified their action blaming authorities for negligence.

“We mingled with this family after they were declared negative and now we are all shocked and feeling unsafe,” they said. The head (mother) of the family threatened to end her life if shifted to isolation centre demanding action against those who had declared them negative earlier. Authorities called in police and got the family shifted to District Hospital Ganderbal in Dudarhama. We are right now in Isolation Centre. We were forcibly brought here. They claim we all are Covid-19 positive and we demanded that our samples should be taken again, they say it will take time, as health professionals are busy with other patients,” said the only male member of the family. A couple of officials when contacted said they are busy in arrangements as Lieutenant Governor is scheduled to visit the district today. Meanwhile, an order has been issued by District Magistrate Ganderbal, declaring Bhat Mohalla Margund Kangan as red Zone with restrictions on the inward and outward movement. This as per order has been done in view of recent surge of Covid-19 cases in the area. In one more order issued by District Magistrate Ganderbal, markets in Ganderbal will remain completely closed on Sundays. However, shops selling essential commodities and medicines are exempted from this order. (KNT)
