Joint Director Rural Development Inspects Work Of Dewatering And De-Silting Of Ponds Started Under ‘Mission Fateh’

Asks Officers To Ensure That The Work Was Completed Within Stipulated Timeline

Under the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s ‘Mission Fateh’ aimed at checking the spread of Covid 19, the Rural Development and Panchayat department has  started the work of de-watering and de-silting of village Ponds in the district.The Joint Director of the department Mr. Avtar Singh Bhullar today reviewed the ongoing work at  village Paddi Khalsa, Jhand, Sang Dhesian and others. Expressing satisfaction over the pace of ongoing work the Joint Director asked the officers of the department to ensure  that it was accomplished within the stipulated time period.  He said that the department was duty-bound to complete the work of de-watering and desilting of all village ponds  before the timeline of June 15 set by the Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa.The Joint Director said that labour under Mahatma Gandhi  National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has been put on job for this work. He said that with this initiative the Punjab Government has given a big relief to the poor  people by providing them work and income to meet their daily livelihood needs. Mr. Bhullar asked the officers of the department to submit daily report to him regarding the  ongoing work of de-watering and de-silting of village ponds.Pertinently, there were 987 ponds in the district out of which dewatering was required in 815 ponds and the work of  692 such ponds has been completed whereas 264 ponds have been dewatered so far. Similarly 434 ponds in the villages of district needed de-silting and work on 209 such  ponds have already started whereas the work was complete on 79 of them.On the occasion, Block Development and Panchayat Officer Mr. Ram Pal Singh, Mr. Gaggandeep  Singh and others were also present.
