Governor Bandaru Dattatreya emphasises on strengthening economy by promoting the herb based products

With the proper utilization of biodiversity based on research and technology, the economy of the state could be strengthened by promoting the herb based products of the Himalayan region. This was stated by Governor Bandaru Dattatraya while interacting with representatives of forest, science and technology departments and NGOs at Raj Bhavan, on the occasion of World Biodiversity Day today. “Corona revealed to the world that we cannot take the hostility of nature. If you destroy nature, nature will harm you, it is certain", said Dattatraya. He added that population density, urbanization and industrialization have changed the lives of the people. We have to proceed on the path of development but must reduce the over exploitation of nature as the balance of nature was very important. We cannot abolish the forest area in the name of development.Shri Dattatraya said that natural disasters like tsunami were also the result of tampering with nature. He said that the Biodiversity Act should be strictly enforced at the lower level. In addition, awareness campaigns should also be organized for environmental protection. He appreciated the products produced at the departmental level and stressed on furthering this work by departmental coordination.On the occasion, Dr. Ajay, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and D.C. Rana, Director, Science and Technology briefed the Governor about the activities of the department and made him aware of the work being done for biodiversity.Representatives of NGOs have also participated in the discussion.Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary to Governor was also present on the occasion.
