Covid-19 Pandemic : KVIC provides relief to needy people in J&K

In the month of March when the first case of Corona Virus surfaced in the Country, Hon’ble Prime Minister announced Janta Curfew for one day and subsequently cases started increasing as day by day and lockdown in the Country including Jammu and Kashmir was announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister. Since the lockdown was announced, Government Agencies, Private Agencies and various NGO’s started the relief work all over the country including Jammu and Kashmir. In this connection Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) started the relief work on bigger note to the needy people of Jammu and Kashmir. During this period State Director, I/c D. S. Bhati and staff members Anil Kumar Sharma, Gautam Mohan, Balkar Singh & Parveen Akhter  facing all odds and problem continued with the relief work. Worth to mention here that since the government of India issued Lockdown Guidelines regarding the preventive measures to be taken to contain the spread of Novel Coronavirus-19.State  Office KVIC Jammu and Kashmir started the work with the permeation of local Administration from 23.03.2020. From that period this office remained open. As per the directives of Hon’ble Chairman detail of distribution Food/Milk packet donation of Khadi Mask, manufacturing of Khadi Cotton Mask, processing of MDA and ISEC claims, depositing of AWFT, distribution of grocery/Raw material kits as under:-The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, U.T has issued a circular dated; 05.04.2020 regarding the requirement of Masks various Government Organizations including KVIC to combat the deadly virus Covid-19. In this connection, as per the Directives of Hon’ble Chairman on 07.04.2020 KVIC State Office, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has started manufacturing of Khadi Masks and received the order of Khadi Cotton Masks Nos 7.50 Lacs Amounting to Rs 143.73 Lacs. Till date Nos 5.50 Lacs Khadi Cotton Masks have already been prepared and supplied to Concerned Deputy Commissioners offices of U.T. as per specification and giving wages to 300 artisans.

Distributing of 2550Nos Food Packets among the needy people and Migrant labor residing outside the U.T from 29.03.2020 to 02.04.2020.Amul 500 ML Tetra Pack, 1512 Nos Milk packets distributed to children of Migrant workers from to 18.04.2020 to 21.04.2020Khadi Institutions of J&K and Stitching Centre, Nagrota, Distributed 18,500Nos. Khadi Cotton Masks till date as donation to various Deputy Commissioners, NGO, Municipality Worker, Superintendent of Police, Medical Staff and Para Military Forces in J&K U.T both in Kashmir and Jammu regions.This office has processed the MDA claims amounting to Rs 965.72 Lacs for the year 2016-17 of 85 Khadi Institutions giving incentive to more than 8000 artisans . This office has processed the ISEC claims amounting to Rs 25.00 Lacs for the year 2019-20 of 31 Khadi Institutions.As per the appeal of Hon’ble Chairman, KVIC, the 32 Khadi Institutions has deposited AWFT Amounting to Rs. 8,90,000 to 890 artisans @ Rs.1000 and the process is going on.Despite the Nationwide lockdown because of the spread of the Corona virus (Covid-19), State Office, KVIC, Jammu and Kashmir took the initiative and started the relief work to the migrant workers and people living in slum areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Before this initiative undersigned along with the KVIC Staff manage to make office functional. In the meantime more employees joined the office and since then office is functional despite all the problems faced.In all this process, services of women folk working at Stitching Center Nagrota, was also taken and they also started manufacturing Khadi Masks and due to this they were able to earn their livelihood despite lockdown. By getting work at their doorstep giving employment to 150 women artisans, these women workers presented special Thanks to the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Hon'ble Minister MSME and Hon'ble Chairman KVIC. During the lockdown period 441 applications of PMEGP was uploaded and 735 unit amounting margin money Rs. 1443.19 lakh was disbursed by giving employment of 5145 No’s (735 self employment and wages 4410). The State Director and all the staff members feel happy to serve the needy people during this period, the undersigned along with the staff members thanks to the competent authority of KVIC for giving this noble task to this office. It is worthwhile to mention it here that the above work was not possible without the support and valuable guidance of the Competent Authority.
