May 12- Continuing its strict vigil over the drug peddling along law and order situation amidst the Covid 19, the Jalandhar (Rural) Police on Tuesday arrested five drug peddlers  and seized 159.5 kg poppy husk, drug money worth Rs 21500 and a Tata Sumo (PB10-BH-0884).The accused have been identified as Ramji of Mohalla Bebi Deep Kaur, Hardeep  Singh of village Burj Husan, Amandeep Singh of Ranjeet Pura Mohalla, Gurwinder Singh of Quila Mohalla and Baljinder Kumar of Umarpur in Bilga town of the district.Divulging the  information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said that SHO Bilga Police Station Inspector Mr Surjeet Singh Padda was heading a police naka near  Radha Soami Satsang Ghar in Talwan and police party stopped two persons for the purpose of the checking. Mr Mahal told that both persons revealed their identity as Hardeep  and Ramji and cops seized seven kg poppy husk from the poly bags they were carrying and take into the custody.He said that a case under sections 15-61, 85 of NDPS Act,  188,269 of IPC and 51 (B) Of National Disaster Management Act 2005 registered against them and taken on police remand."Following their interrogation, the cops found that  Ramji and Gurwinder had purchased the poppy husk from unidentified truck driver and latter supply the contraband in his sumo. Then, the cops raided Gurwinder Singh and  seized 140kg poppy husk packed in seven bags (20-kg in each) from Sumo and recovered Rs 21400 from Ramji's house which he earned from selling husk", he said and added  Gurwinder was nominated in the similar case. In separate case, ASI Mr Rajinder Kumar along with the police party outside Sangowal Bus stand and stopped Amandeep Singh for  the purpose of checking and seized 2.5 kg poppy husk from the bag. Similarly, ASI Mr Sukhdev Singh and police party in Umarpura Road got the tip-off about Baljinder Kumar and  arrested him with 10-kg poppy husk. Separate cases under sections 15-61, 85 of NDPS Act, 188,269 of IPC and 51 (B) Of National Disaster Management Act 2005 registered  against them in Bilga Police Station.
