2400 Migrants Board Two ‘Shramik Express’ Trains To Chapra And Azamgarh

Around 2400 migrants today boarded two ‘Shramik Express’ trains from the city to Chapra (Bihar) and Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh) with the state government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh paying Rs 6.78 lakh and Rs 6.42 lakh respectively for their free travel.The 18th ‘Sharmik Express’ train for Chapra today chugged at 8 am and the 19th one for Azamgarh left at 11 am under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Balkar Singh and Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Rahul Sindhu. This was a noble initiative taken by the state government to ensure that migrants, who aspire to visit their native states, could go back easily without any sort of inconvenience to them.Earlier in the day, the migrants who were scheduled to board the train were transported free of cost from transit points set up by the district administration via buses of the Punjab roadways to the city Railway station. The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has already made elaborate arrangements for the smooth boarding of the migrants for the train. At the Railway station they were boarded into the train while maintaining social distance and a team of the Health department was specially deployed to ensure the medical screening of every passenger boarding the train.The Deputy Commissioner of Police and Sub Divisional Magistrate, who were specially present on the occasion, said that the state government has spent huge Rs 13.20 lakh on these trains to facilitate the migrants for their safe journey. They said that only those migrants who have registered them on government portal were being facilitated for the movement towards their respective destinations.
