‘Attempt to revive militancy in Chenab Valley nipped’

Four militants were killed in two different gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.  Two militants were killed in Dairu Keegam village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.Police said that combined forces cordoned off the village after receiving inputs about the presence of militants in a house. “It was a clean operation. The house didn’t suffer any damage. Both the militants hiding inside the house were neutralized and arms and ammunitions were recovered from the spot of incident,” an official told KNT.Eyewitnesses said that dozens of people after the gunfight hit to roads and pelted stones; however, they were chased away.A top police official from Shopian told KNT that militants were not identified and they were sent to Police Control Room, Srinagar. Meanwhile, in another encounter at Dachen Kishtwar, police said that two militants responsible for the killing of policeman Pashid Iqbal were killed in a gunfight.They identified the militants as Basharat Hussain and Ashiq Hussain,  both residents of  village Tander, Dachhan. Police said that both the attackers had fled from spot after killing a cop and injuring another.Police official said that the operation against these two assailants were supervised by army and police jointly.“After meticulous search and painstaking efforts for three consecutive days, the search party zeroed in behind village Saunder in a nallah. On observing the movement of Forces, the hiding militants fired at the search party and in the retaliatory action , both the militants were killed. One AK 74 rifle and one INSAS rifle were recovered from the killed militants,” the official told KNT.The official said that with this timely and sustained effort, an attempt to revive militant activities in the Dachan and Marwah areas of Kishtwar has been nipped. “This action is a tribute to the police slain Pashid Iqbal,” he said.
