COVID-19 : DC Kupwara compliments PRIs for effective role during lockdown

District Administration, Kupwara has taken pragmatic steps to implement J&K High Court directive regarding cutting down of Female Russian Poplar trees(FRPT) and implementation of preventive measures in view of COVID-19 on ground, across the district. For this purpose, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Anshul Garg, designated District Panchayat Officer (DPO) as Nodal Officer to mobilize services of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs), including BDC Chairpersons, Sarpanches, Panches, Numberdars and Chowkidars, besides, volunteers.The DPO, giving details, informed that with the active participation of PRIs, the Administration identified 162488 Russian Female Poplar Trees in all 24 blocks of the border district. He said during past three day 4173 RFPT were axed followed by a vigorous awareness campaign regarding ill and hazardous effects of pollen coming out of RFPT during the season on human health. He said efforts are on to achieve the target within the fixed time.The DPO further informed that Block Development Council Chairpersons (BDCs) and PRIs provided every possible support to the Administration during ongoing lockdown and helped Food and Civil Supplies department in distribution of ration and maintenance of social distance and assisted Administration in tracing the persons with travel history and in identification of locations of migrant (none local) labourers stationed in the district and in distributing free ration among them.He added that the PRIs also assisted in fumigation of two villages in Handwara and Tangdar, which were declared red zones and also assisted in removing garbage dumps from public places . 

The PRIs are also associated with the framing of Block Level and Panchayat level AMCs and have a prime role in ensuring complete ban on entry and exit of people in the RED zone areas and also assisted local administration in identifying vulnerable sections including senior citizens and chronically ill persons in their areas, he added.The DPO said that the PRIs also had a good role in distribution of masks in rural area and created a conducive atmosphere to stop congregational prayers in their respective areas, besides helping in identifying and cutting of female poplar trees.The DC lauded the BDC Chairpersons and Sarpanches for successfully implementing lockdown in the district and also for ensuring social distancing in their respective jurisdictions.Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, Anshul Garg, today convened a meeting with ADC Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Lone, CMO and DPO to review the availability and supply position of masks in the district.The DC was informed that the Administration  is continuously working to protect the people from dreadful infection COVID-19 and has procured 40,000 surgical Masks (including N95) of which 23000 have been distributed and 17000 are in stock. Besides , the District Administration has placed an order of 87000 cloth masks to various agencies which includes 10000 masks from DCI Multi Skills, 5000 from UMEED, 5000 from Javid & Co, 38500 from BDC chairpersons, 10000 from KVIC, and rest from other agencies.The DC was further informed that the Administration has received 9000 cloth Masks of which 3900 has been distributed among different categories of people including 1750 among PRIs through BDOs, 2000 among citizens and 150 in the red zone areas  while remaining 5100 are available in stock.
