Local Group helping needy amid Covid-19 scare without any publicity

At a time when most of the NGO’s and groups help needy for publicity, thank God there is local group that befriends people in need without making any publicity. This group doesn’t believe in publicity and does work to appease none but Almighty.This Reporter spent two days with this group and witnessed how members of this group mostly young are reaching out to needy and supply eatables and other required items without clicking photographs and then post on social media networking sites, as is the norm in Kashmir.‘Athwaas’ (Group of Humanity) is the brainchild of some youth from Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar city. This group is very active on field and from past couple of days this group supplied ration and other eatables to needy especially migrant labourers. “We work for humanity. We maintain proper records but never click photographs of needy, who receive help from us,” said a group member without revealing his name to Kashmir News Trust.

From past couple of days, we received calls from non-local labourers and we helped them. We also help locals who are in need. We receive calls from almost all parts of Srinagar city but sometimes due to lock-down we are unable to reach out to the needy. Government identity cards can ensure our hassle free movement, but unfortunately we don’t have such cards. Alhamdulliha, still this group is doing a wonderful job,” he said.The ‘Athwaas’ Group appealed needy to contact them for help.“We are always at their disposal. Humanity is our religion and we are only accountable to Allah.”  When asked the source of funding, the group members said that there is no dearth of those who want to do something for the humanity. “There are people who contribute on monthly basis against proper receipts. The contributors have every right to seek account details from us and every time they, they check accounts, express satisfaction,” the group members said. (KNT)
