In order to give reprieve to the needy and underprivileged sections of the society, the district administration has started distribution of door to door supply of wheat under the Public Distribution System (PDS) to this starta of society.Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the administration was in the process of distributing 26000 metric ton of wheat TO 2.25 lakh families  through the Ration depots under the Public Distribution system. However, he said that after the imposition of curfew the ration depots were locked. Mr. Sharma said that in order to ensure people were able to get this wheat at their doorsteps; the administration has deputed special teams.The Deputy Commissioner said that teams of the Food and Civil Supplies department have been deputed to complete this mammoth task at the earliest. He said that more than 22000 metric ton wheat has been distributed in all the blocks. Mr. Sharma said that packing of 30 kilograms of wheat was being supplied at every household adding that the officers have been directed to ensure that the wheat was supplied at the earliest to all the eligible beneficiaries in a time bound manner.Meanwhile, the District Food and Supplies Controller Mr. Narinder Singh said that the teams were on job to complete this mammoth task. He said that the work would be completed soon to facilitate the people especially from the weaker and underprivileged sections. Mr. Narinder Singh said that the inspectors of Food and Civil Supply department were supervising the entire work of distribution of wheat under the Public Distribution System.
