2 labourers killed, 2 others injured in blast inside army camp in Anantnag

Two labourers were killed and as many others were injured in a mysterious blast inside an army camp at Khundroo area of Achabal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday. Khundroo houses army’s biggest ammunition depot in Kashmir.Reports reaching GNS said that the five labourers were working inside the army’s 21 FAD camp when the mysterious blast occurred.Two labourers sustained serious splinter injuries and two others suffered minor injuries. All the injured were immediately evacuated to nearby MI room (military health facility) where two critically wounded— Gulzar Ahmad Khan and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, succumbed.After being operated upon, the doctors at MI room referred the other two injured to Govt Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for specialized treatment, they said.A doctor at GMC said that they have received only two injured persons. He identified the injured as Fida Hussain son of Syed Mohammad of Gopalpora and Shabir Ahmad son of Mohammad Anwar Khan of Gopalpora. Confirming the incident, a police official said the cause and nature of the blast is being investigated.Meanwhile, Srinagar based defence ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia in a statement to GNS said four civil labourers were injured in an accidental explosion during the repair of ammunition at Army Camp Monday afternoon.“The injured were immediately evacuated to the nearby medical facility. Unfortunately, two labourers succumbed to their injuries and two others are under treatment,” he said, adding, “Indian Army offers heartfelt condolences to members of the grieved families and stand by them in their hour of grief.”(GNS)
