DC conducts surprise checking at Ghabdan OOAT Clinic

Deputy Commissioner Sangrur  Ghanshyam Thori, on Friday, conducted a surprise checking of OOAT clinic at village Ghabdan and took stock of the medical assistance being  given to the patients. DC also held discussion with the drug addicts there to take their feedback on availability of drugs in the district. Deputy Commissioner said that to curb the  drug menace in Sangrur, besides the continuous efforts of district administration under the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) programme of Punjab Government, people from  various sections of the society will also have to contribute actively. He was also accompanied by SDM Sangrur Babandeep Singh Walia.DC also appealed the people that if  anybody has any information regarding the use of drugs, then it could be shared with the district administration on 01672-232304. He added that they could also avail any  information about OOAT clinics by dialing district administration's helpline number. He said that availability of drugs will not be tolerated at any cost and strict action will be  initiated against the drug peddlers.Mr. Thori said that the government has been providing medicine at government de addiction centers, Rehabilitation centers and as many as 12  OOAT clinics have been operational in the district. He also made the people aware of the DAPO programme of the government and informed that the drug addicts were being  treated free of cost at OOAT clinics and drug de-addiction centres of the government.Meanwhile, physiatrist Dr. Deepak Bansal said that the patients were being given medicine  of 5 days at the OOAT clinics but earlier patients have to visit daily to have their drug de-addiction dose. He added that apart from Ghabdan, the OOAT clinics are operational at  Malerkotla, Sunam, Moonak, Dhuri, Ahehmdgarh, Sherpur, Longowal, Amargarh, Lehragaga, Kohrian and Bhawanigrah.
