Much talked about film ‘Ikko Mikke’ which shall mark the entrance of Satinder Sartaaj into the world of Punjabi cinema is releasing on the 13th of March, 2020. With this film, the makers are breaking the stereotypical image of Punjabi films and bringing in a fresh concept oriented film. The film will see Satinder Sartaaj and Aditi Sharma in lead roles. Punjabi cinema is, undoubtedly, growing by leaps and bounds; yet a fact which is to be taken with a pinch of salt is that the segment of audiences who watch Punjabi films in theatres are limited. Be it a matter of choice, or the ever increasing ticket prices, a Punjabi film, seldom, witnesses a bumper box office opening. Adhering to this prevalent scenario, 2 Punjabi films, Satinder Sartaaj’s Ikko Mikke and Amrinder Gill’s ‘Chal Mere Putt 2’, both having an immense potential to entertain the audiences are releasing on the same date; and this doesn’t seem to be an astute move.

Punjab’s entertainment industry is flourishing which is evident from the fact that directors and producers from the rest of India and overseas are showing keen interest in the music, content, and artists of Punjab. But, sadly, Punjab’s own artists’ fraternity fails to understand this. Regarding Ikko Mikke and Chal Mere Putt 2, the question which arises in everyone’s mind is that- is there some kind competitiveness brewing amidst the 2 artists of the respective films? The fact of the matter is that Ikko Mikke had announced its release date well in advance, and Chal Mere Putt 2 releasing on the same date doesn’t really seem to be a coincidence! 2films of distinct genres, different storylines, witnessing the screen presence of iconic singers turned actors deserve different release dates as well for the benefit of the films and of the audiences. We wish for a peaceful and harmonious co-existence in the world of Punjabi entertainment which shall, most definitely, prove to be of universal benefit.
