Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Himachal Pradesh, Shimla Sukhvinder Khanna called on the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here today. She apprised the Chief Minister regarding the new scheme launched by the Union Government ‘Vivad-Se-Vishwaas Scheme, 2020’.She said that the prime target of the scheme is to reduce litigation with PSUs and other assesses as the new Direct Tax Scheme offers some tax forbearance in return for revenue and as assurance to reduce litigation in direct taxes.Ms. Khanna said that the scheme intends to resolve pending disputes and has segregated the terms of payment on the basis of appeals having being filed by the Tax Department or by the tax payer. She said that the ‘Vivad Se Vishwaas Scheme’ would undisputedly benefit the interest of tax  payers looking for an expeditious and rapid settlement of their tax claims raised by the department. She said that a negotiated settlement between the tax payer and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is a sensible way to resolve dispute without moving to court. It is an advantageous scheme for both the tax payer and the department and it is hoped that this will work as intended to the benefit of the tax payer as well as department, she added.Chief Commissioner of Income Tax also urged the Chief Minister to persuade some of CPSUs located in the State and the State Public Sector Undertakings of Himachal Pradesh to take advantage of the scheme and to go in for a rapid settlement of their tax claims raised by the department.Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sanjay Kundu was also present on the occasion.
