Govt. To Table Panchayti Raj Bill For Amendments In Assembly Soon

Day after State Congress President Prof. Saif ud din Soz  raised voice against what he said, “non empowerment’ of Punches and Sarpanches, Govt. on Saturday said, that the amendments in the constitution for providing more powers to the village representatives was on final stage before it could be sent to Assembly. It (Govt.) however added that the village representatives had been empowered and the govt. was working to make them even more strong and more empowered. “There are two things, one is the empowerment and the second is to give them even more Powers. As far as empowerment is concerned, we know better than anyone else, that they (Village representatives) are fully empowered.” Rural development and Pachayti raj Mister Ali Mohammad Sagar told 5DARIYANEWS. He further said that regarding providing more powers to the village heads, his ministry has already prepared a draft bill which has been even cared by the law department and was now probably with the General Administration department wherefrom the bill would make its way to the assembly for its incorporation in the 1989 Pachayti raj Act. Sagar while referring to Prof. Soz’s remarks said that Congress had some reservations regarding the direct elections and reservation which have been take care of and would be incorporated in the 1989 Pachayti Act. He however said that National conference believed that 73rd amendment as a whole can’t be applicable in J&K due its special status. However Sagar added that the ‘good provisions’ of the amendment would be incorporated. He claimed that Congress has also agreed on it.
