Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani outrightly rejected the parliamentary elections in central and north Kashmir respectively terming it ‘a military operation which is held under the shadow of about 8 lakh guns of Indian forces and police’.According to a statement issued Geelani said that these elections do not have any moral, democratic and constitutional justifications here. “More than 2000 pro-freedom leaders, activists and youths especially students have been detained in different police stations and jails.” Geelani questioned that, if the pro-freedom people are not allowed to present their view point then what kind of democracy and democratic process is this. While paying tributes to slain militants of Shopian, chairman Hurriyat (G) said that these precious sacrifices demand that we should completely boycott the 2nd and 3rd phase of election drama, which is going to be held on 30th April and 7th May respectively and send a clear message across the India and their agents in Kashmir that, Kashmiris will continue their just and legitimate freedom struggle in any way and at any cost.

While appreciating the election boycott of South Kashmir, Geelani said that after the successful election boycott in south Kashmir, Indian government and their puppet administration in Kashmir  have now created a war like situation here by activating the entire Indian forces, army, CRPF, police and other secret agencies. It looks that India has virtually started a war against the common Kashmiris.“Army and police have intensified the search and patrolling in the entire central and north Kashmir and they have formally launched a crackdown on common youth, especially students and are harassing the family members of pro-freedom leaders and activists, the beloved children of their parents are snatched from them and they are kept in police stations and jails to win this one sided game. The whole Kashmir has been converted into the Guantanamo bay prison. The pro-freedom leader said that this situation confirms our stand that Indian is holding a military operation in Kashmir in the name of election process. He said that to get rid of this military operation and forced occupation we should completely boycott this election drama.”

He said that to pay tributes to our martyrs, people should remain in homes on 30th April and 7th May. He said that we should adopt the path of Hazrat Husain (RA) and reject Yazeed by boycotting this election drama. Geelani expressed hope that the people will stay away from this act of ‘voting oppressors’ and which is a sign of the great nations. Geelani also appeals the non-government human rights organizations to take serious notice of the present situation in Kashmir and use their influence to relieve us from this oppression.
