ECI Relaxes Restrictions On Bikram Singh Majithia

The Election Commission of India today reconsidered the restrictions imposed on Bikram Singh Majithia, MLA of 13-Majitha Assembly Constituency and communicated that now his movement would be restricted to boundaries of 13-Majitha Assembly Segment instead of earlier orders of polling station area from where he is an elector and shall not visit any other part of assembly segment of 02-Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency.
Briefing the media, Mr. V.K. Singh, CEO Punjab said that we have received a communication from ECI that his movements would continue to be kept under surveillance and videographed as per yesterday’s instructions. Clarifying the position Mr. V.K. Singh said that this restriction as well as relaxation has been done at the level of ECI. Giving the details of preparations made for conducting General Elections to Lok Sabha-2014 in Punjab in which a total 1,95,27,114 voters (1,02,66,743 male voters and 92,60,371 female voters) would decide the fate of 253 candidates in 13 Parliamentary Constituencies, Mr. V.K. Singh said that 22,000 polling parties along with their security components have reached their respective polling locations. He said that these polling parties comprises of 114798 civil staff and 47355 security personnel.
The CEO said that Central Para Military Forces (CPMFs) have been deputed on 3324 polling locations while 8600 such locations were being manned by Punjab Armed Police/State Armed Battalions. Besides this, 689 additional mobile parties of CPMFs have been deputed in Tarn Taran, Kapurthala and Ludhiana districts. He said that 9152 micro observers have also reached at different polling locations while 3378 polling booths were being covered through video/still photography. The arrangements have been made for web casting on 338 polling booths. He said that state has 33,000 EVMs and 43,000 Ballot Units for uninterrupted voting. He said that in 10 constituencies where the number of candidates was more than 16, the EVMs of ECIL, Hyderabad were being used for voting while in three constituencies namely Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurdaspur where the number of candidates was less than 15, EVMs of BEL, Bangaluru were being used. He said that 43 and 11 Engineers from these companies have already reported in the state to meet any eventuality on EVM front.
He said that the polling booth of village Bajewala has minimum number of voters i.e. 168 while the Ferozepur Cantt polling location have maximum number of votes i.e. 8588 and 5 polling parties have been deputed there to ensure efficient polling there. He said that the polling locations like Ferozepur Cantt, Gurdaspur Cantt and Jalandhar Cantt where the voters were from security force only, the candidates were allowed to depute the polling agents from outside but they should be from the same constituency. He also informed that a total 7 polling locations were across the river Sutlej and these include 6 in Ferozepur and 1 in Fazilka district respectively. The CEO informed that a total 40279 Election Duty Certificates and 8,000 Postal Ballots have been issued to civil staff deputed on poll duty. Similarly, 14000 EDCs and 2,000 Postal Ballots have been issued to security personnel while 383 EDCs have been issued to other employees like drivers/cleaners/peons deputed on poll duty.
