Review meeting of Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities

No 'Divyang' should be left out : Assistant Commissioner (General) Yashpal Sharma

"The Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities (UDID) project aims to create a National database for Persons with disabilities and to issue Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disability (Divyang). This project would ease the delivery of benefits of the Government schemes to Divyang people in a transparent manner." These views were expressed here today by the Assistant Commissioner (General) Mr. Yashpal Sharma while presiding over a review meeting of the UDID project in the District. He directed the officers of various departments that the process to digitize the UDID cards of those who already have these, should be started at the earliest and the registration of those should be ensured whose cards have still not been made. Directing the officers of the Education Department, the Assistant Commissioner said that the registration of all the Divyang students should be done irrespective of whether they study in Government or Private schools.He also directed the Child Development Project Officers to ensure that all the Divyang people receiving pension/financial assistance from the Social Security Department, be registered. 

Directing the BDPOs to ensure maximum publicity of the scheme in the villages through panchayats and during the workshops of the MGNREGA, Mr. Yashpal Sharma divulged that this would lead to Divyang people living in the rural areas getting registered. He also said that the UDID cards of the Divyang employees serving in the various departments should be made on priority basis and asked the officials of the Sewa Kendras to accord preference to register Divyang people.Mr. Sharma also added that the registration can be done on the Government website www.swavlambancard.gov.in.The Assistant Civil Surgeon, S. A. S. Nagar Mr. Kuldeep Singh on the occasion elaborated that out of the total population of 21695 Divyang people in the District, 4704 had applied for these cards and 2039 persons have been issued these cards.Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included the District Social Security Officer, S. A. S. Nagar Mr. Ravinder Singh Rahi, BDPO Kharar Mr. Hiten Kapila, BDPO Derabassi Mr. Sukhchain Singh, BDPO Majri Dilawar Kaur, CDPO Majri Harmeet Kaur, CDPO Kharar - 2 Arvinder Kaur, CDPO Kharar - 1 Sukhmaneet Kaur, District Education Officer Surjit Kaur, CDPO Derabassi Suman Bala, District Incharge of Sewa Kendra Jagdeep Singh and Dr. Varinder Kaur from the Education Department.
