PEDA Organises Workshop On Improving Energy Efficiency In Buildings

Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) on Tuesday organized a workshop on energy efficiency in buildings at PEDA Solar Passive Complex, Chandigarh. PEDA - the State  Designated Agency for implementation of Energy Conservation Act, 2001 in the state of Punjab - also organised an exhibition on energy efficient building materials.This was the  15th such program held this year under the guidelines of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. Sardar H.S. Hanspal, Chairman, PEDA inaugurated the  workshop and exhibition in which energy efficient building materials such as Insulation, AAC Blocks, HVAC, Glass, Lighting, Solar PV & Hot Water, Electrical Systems & Automation  were displayed by various manufacturers and vendors. He told that by using renewable energy systems along with energy efficiency considerable power can be saved which will  offset the new capacity addition thereby decreasing GHG emission resulting to save the environment. Welcoming the participants, Chief Executive Officer PEDA Sh. Navjot Pal  Singh Randhawa, IAS,  emphasized upon use of Energy Conservation Building Code to save electricity upto 40%.

On the occasion, Sh. Anil Mangla, Senior Vice Chairman, Sh. Karan Warring, Vice Chairman, Sh. Sushil Malhotra member BOG and Smt. Raj Kumari, member BOG, PEDA were  also present.First technical session was chaired by Sh. S.K. Gupta, Chief Engineer (Head Quarter) PWD (B&R) Punjab and Co-chaired by Ar. Surinder Bahga in which  presentations were made by the experts from BEE, GIZ, PEDA and eminent experts on use of ECBC for commercial & residential building, sustainable Architectures and feasibility  of Net Zero Energy Building. Second technical session was held on energy efficiency in Hospital buildings which was chaired by Sh. P.S. Saini, Superintending Hospital Engineer,  PGI, Chandigarh and Sh. Roop Chand, SE, PWD (B&R) Electrical, Punjab.The experts made presentations on energy efficiency in health care facilities along with case studies on  energy efficiency in hospital. More than 200 Architects, Engineers, Builders, Govt. Officers from various stakeholder departments/organizations and industry participated in the  workshop.
