Project Screening Committee clears 4cluster proposals under SFURTI

Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Manoj Kumar Dwivedi today called for effective implementation of employment generation schemes of Khadi Village and Industries Board, especially for uplifting the weaker sections of the society.  Principal Secretary was speaking at a meeting of Project Screening Committee of the ‘Scheme of Funds for Regeneration of Traditional Industries’ (SFURTI), here.The Fund scheme aims at to make the traditional industries more productive, competitive and facilitate their sustainable development.The meeting was attended by Secretary (Chief Executive Officer) KVIB, Director Handicrafts, Director Handloom, Director Planning, representatives of NABARD, J&K Bank and several other officers.After thorough discussion, the Committee cleared four SFURTI cluster proposals, involving project cost of Rs 11.93 Crore. The cluster projects cleared are Kishtwari Blanket weaving cluster Doda, Carpet weaving clusters at Baramulla and Bandipora and Sozni cluster at Kupwara, which will cover around 3000 artisans.The Principal Secretary directed the KVIB which is the nodal agency for implementation of SFURTI programme in J&K, to explore the possibility of establishing cluster for Basholi Painting Art, Bamboo works, herbal and aromatic products in Jammu region.He suggested for establishing at least one cluster in each district of the UT to enable the artisans and workers associated with the traditional and village industries to reinforce their income and market their products.
