One week workshop on Integration of Values and Peace Education in Teaching Practices  under Centre for Professional Development of Teacher Educators,  School of Education under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) scheme, MHRD, is being organized under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Jaspal Singh Sandhu of Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar. The programme was inaugurated at the Department of Education by Prof. Hardeep Singh, Dean Student Welfare and Head, Computer Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on 14th February, 2020 while, Prof. (Dr) N.K.Ambasht, former Pro Chancellor, IASE Deemed University and Former Chairperson NIOS, New Delhi   delivered the keynote address on this occasion.Prof Amit Kauts, Project Coordinator, School of Education while welcoming the guests and participants shared that the basic goal of this workshop is to provide training to teachers to enable them develop knowledge and understanding of the various issues and concerns having a bearing on education for peace. He further ellaborated that the workshop will equip the teachers with the strategies to integrate values into the content for better transaction of the curriculum. Prof. Hardeep Singh in his inagural address drew the attention of the participants to the systematic erosion of values in the present times. He highlighted how teachers can play an instrumental role in saving our future generations by not just delivering the syllabus  but by inculcating values among the students. Prof. Singh further emphasized that practice is more important than preaching.

Prof. (Dr) N.K.Ambasht  in his keynote address congratulated the School of Education for initiating the task of reorienting teacher educators on a very crucial issue of integrating peace and values in the teaching learning process. He stressed that the teachers have an intrinsic power to make a society. Prof. Ambasht further added that unfortunately we have lost this power .He urged the participants to arouse their consciousness and restructure their approach. He stressed that we should introspect on why we are teaching what we are teaching. Prof. Ambasht also focussed on the role of teacher in the present times of information and communication. No doubt, technology is a boon but it cannot replace teachers as far as inculcation of values and man making process  is concerned. Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts, Head, Department of Education, emphasized that we need to relook at the term education as a broader term for developing good, viable and responsible citizens. She also highlighted the importance of creating a value orienting environment. She thanked the guests of the day and congratulated the participants of the workshop. Twenty five participants from higher education institutions from different parts of the country have come to attend this  workshop.
