"The drainage system in the urban areas of the District would be strengthened so as to ensure that the sewages do not overflow and the excess water doesn't inundates the villages of the region."These views were expressed here today by the Technical Education and Industrial Training, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, Punjab, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi. The minister alongwith the Deputy Commissioner, S. A. S. Nagar Mr. Girish Dayalan was inspecting the washed away section of the Kharar-Bassi Pathana at village Malikpur. The minister further assured that a survey to assess the damage would be conducted and a permanent solution to the problem would be found to prevent the reoccurence of such a calamity.It is worth mentioning that the SYL canal filled with the sewage water was breached at village Malikpur near Kharar recently. The Deputy Commissioner Mr. Girish Dayalan had constituted a committee comprising officers from the drainage department, PWD and the Executive Officer of the Kharar Municipal Council to look into the matter and take corrective steps.Among others present on the occasion included the SDM Kharar Mr. Himanshu Jain, Executive Engineer PWD Mr. N. S. Walia and SDO PWD Mr. Ajay Singla.
