DC Inaugurates Six ‘She Boxes’ In City For Prompt Redressal Of Complaints Regarding Crime Against Women

Envisions That Boxes Would Help In Mitigating The Woes Of Women Suffering From Domestic Violence, Sexual Harassment And Other Crimes

In a major initiative aimed at checking the crime against women, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today inaugurated ‘She Box’ in the city, to ensure prompt and hassle free complaint redressal of aggrieved women.Inaugurating one such box, set up by Women and Child Welfare department, at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner envisioned that this box would be helpful in mitigating the woes of the women suffering from domestic violence, sexual harassment or any crime against them. He said that sometimes women were subjected to such crimes by their near and dear ones or by some of their higher ups due to which it was difficult for them to raise voice against them openly. Mr. Sharma said that these boxes would help such women by providing a platform to them to file their complaints.The Deputy Commissioner said that the aggrieved women or someone on their behalf could file their complaints. 

He said that daily these boxes would be opened in the morning and the complaint would be sent to the relevant authority for time bound action. However, Mr. Sharma said that anonymous complaints would not be entertained by the district administration.The Deputy Commissioner further said that six such boxes have been installed at Civil Hospital, DAC, Railway station, Bus Stand, Civil Surgeon and Sri Ram chowk on wall of Nehru garden school. Likewise, he said that two more such boxes would be installed in Jalandhar Cantt at Main Bazaar and road coming to Cantt from Rama Mandi side. Mr. Sharma said that a viable mechanism has been evolved to ensure that action on the complaint was ensured quickly on the complaints filed by the women.On the occasion Assistant Commissioners Ms. Shayari Malhotra and Mr. Hardeep Singh Dhaliwal, District Program Officer Mr. Amarjit Singh Bhullar, Center Administrator Sakhi Ms. Sandeep Kaur and others were also present.
