Jaish Module busted, 5 active members of outfit arrested: J&K Police

They were involved in carrying out grenade attacks at Hazratbal area, Gelatin sticks, other material used for making IEDs recovered: DIG V K Birdhi

Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have busted a Jaish-e-Muhammad module by arresting five members of the outfit. Police said Gelatins sticks and other material used to make IEDs was recovered from the arrested persons and thereby a major tragedy was averted.Addressing a press conference here, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Central Kashmir range, Vidhi Kumar Birdhi said with regard to militancy related incidents especially grenade attacks that took place on January 8 at Hazratbal and on November 26 at Habbak area in which some civilians got injured, Srinagar police started massive investigations.“Five people Aijaz Ahmed Sheikh of Hazratbal a driver, Umar Sheikh, of Hazratbal a vendor, Imtiyaz of Hazratbal Sports shop, Sahil Farooq Gojri of Hazratbal, Naseer Ahmed Mir, a businessman, from Hazratbal were arrested,” the DIG said as per wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).Flanked by SSP Srinagar Dr Haseeb Mughal, the DIG said that initial probe revealed that they were involved in throwing grenade at Hazratbal and also at Habbak. “On the basis of information provided by them, explosive substance were recovered that include Gelatin sticks, detonators, body vest, shrapnel’s, ball bearing with explosives, nitric acid and tape rolls and coils,” he said.Initial probe revealed that they had lobbed the grenades to markets that were remaining open and carrying out normal business activities.  He said that all the five persons were active cadre of Jaish outfit. “Investigations reveal that their motives to enforce shutdown and paralyses normal life in Srinagar and further plans to execute sensational incidents like militants attack and IED explosions,” the DIG said.(KNO)
