Locals celebrate girl child births, 151 mothers’ felicitated

The Bandipora Panchayats remain abuzz with series of activities as the villagers celebrated Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Week. The week concluded with felicitation of mothers who gave birth to a girl child recently.The district administration had constituted a group of Lady Ambassadors who visited 151 Panchayats of the district to highlight rights of girl child. In the last phase of the week-long programme, 22 Panchayats of Sumbal, Ganstan and Nowgam celebrated the week.At Nesbal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Zahoor Ahmad Mir participated in the concluding ceremony by felicitating a mother who gave birth to girl child last week and handed over a baby-care kit to her.The programme started with special Mahila Sabhas which were chaired by lady ambassadors and Panchayat members.The programme was attended by health workers, Anganwari workers, frontline workers of Government Departments, Pregnant Ladies and girls.Besides developmental issues, awareness about education, health and menstrual hygiene was imparted during the programme.Throughout the week, special discussions were also held on the importance of Girl Child with special emphasis on negative impact of declining sex-ratio on the society.
