Awareness camp under BBBP organized at Shopian

An awareness cum sensitization programme about importance of girl child, rights of women and PC&PNDT Act was today organized under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme, here at Government GHHS Shopian.The program was conducted as a part of district wide campaign initiated by district administration to address the issue of declining child sex ratio.The Program was formally inaugurated by District Development Commissioner(DDC)Choudhary Mohammad Yasinwho was the chief guest on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, DDC highlighted the need of gathering support of stakeholders and involving local champions, prominent personalities, civil society members, media persons and local representatives to ensure effective mindset change in the community.He deliberated on issues related to community mobilization, effective implementation of PC&PNDT Act, promoting girl’s education and effective monitoring of BBBP.He exhorted that there is further need to strengthen system for flow of information regarding child marriages, girls being prevented from going to school, toilets for girls in schools, violence against women etcto bring the visible results on ground.

He called upon the students to join hands with district administration in carrying out a sustained campaign for protection and promotion of girl child.DSWO Mohammad Shafait while speaking on the occasion enumerated various innovative interventions, undertaken under BBBP Scheme like celebration of the birth of girl child, capacity building of ICDS and health officials regarding implementation of PC&PNDT Act and health issues of new born babies and mothers, sealing of unregistered diagnostic labs and regular consultation with stakeholders.Resource persons including WWO Mohasina Mukhtar, District Coordinators Saima Khurshid and Mehvish Yaqoob held detailed deliberations on women rights, importance of girl child and various provisions of PC&PNDT Act respectively.On the occasion, IEC material related to PC&PNDT Act, importance of girl child and women rights were distributed among the participants.Among others CEO Mohammad Sadiq, Principal Govt. GHSS Shopian Abdul Hamid and Nodal Officer Super 50 Initiative Mohammad Amin Ganie were present on the occasion.
