‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’: A Unique initiative in Sangrur District

Graffitis based on 7 talented girls of the district become centre of attraction on Fagguwala Flyover

Flyovers in Sangrur district constructed on the National Highway-7 is spreading the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ message through colours. These large-scale graffitis revealing the success stories of the inspirational personalities like boxer Mary Kom, cricketer Harmandeep Kaur and young activist Malala Yousufzai, as well as graffiti of Fagguwala flyover is based on the 7 outstanding girls in the field of education and sports of the district, which has become the centre of attraction.Giving information about this unique initiative under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, District Programme Officer Mr. Gagandeep Singh said that 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign is being carried out by Department of Women and Child Development. Under this campaign, craft work on Fagguwala bridge has been completed. Therefore, now total 3 bridges of Sangrur district are spreading message of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ through graffities, but the main attraction is Fagguwala Flyover, which is revealing success stories of 7 girls of Sangrur district. This graffiti is based on Priyanka Kaur, a student of GSSS Moonak (Urban), who bagged first positon in rope skipping at state level and second position at national level competition. Similarly, Baljeet kaur from GSSS (girls) Sangrur took first place in the cycling at state level competition, Sandeep Kaur from GSSS Mehlan took first place in 800 meter race (zonal level), Navninder Kaur of GSSS Sunam took first place in district level table tennis competition. Nakshandeep Kaur of GSSS Dhuri secured 95.55% marks in 12th class during the session 2018-2019, Sandeep Kaur of GSSS Benra bagged first place in state level Yoga competition and Haramanajot Kaur of GSSS Sandaur secures 96% marks in 12th during session 2018-2019. He said that the graffiti is showing the prestigious achievements of these girls. Besides this, a bridge about 7 km from Sangrur city and the bridge near Badrukhan is also spreading message of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'. The aim of these graffiti is to motivate parents to make their daughters independent by providing them education and equal opportunities, He added.
