PDJ Shopian inaugurates facility for trials through Video conferencing

Initiative taken to avoid delay in trials of accused and under trials

With the focus to expedite the disposal of court cases, District Court Shopian today conducted the trial of prisoners from District Jail Pulwama through Video Conferencing.The facility was inaugurated by the Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDJ) Shopian, Sikander Azam Chowdhary at Court Complex in presence of President Bar Association Shopian and other Bar Members and general public. The initiative was taken to conduct the trial to avoid delay in trials of under trials.The Video Conferencing System in the court Room was connected with District Jail authorities Pulwama for attendance of the accused and the under trials.For the assistance of the production of the accused from jail, Superintendent   District Jail Pulwama, Riyaz Ahmed Dar, was on line. The statement of four witnesses in the case of under trials was recorded and in two other cases arguments were heard where the accused were present through Video Conferencing.Terming it an important and efficient step in the speedy delivery of justice, PDJ said that VC will be used for extending judicial remands of accused persons or during trial without requirement of their actual production before the court. He said, that this will not only save time of courts but it will also save resources of the state which is being spent in production of the accused and under trial before courts.He also said that Video conferencing system facility will also be used in recording statements of specialist witnesses like doctors, forensic experts and others.Public Prosecutor representing the state, the counsel for the accused lodged in District jail Pulwama were also present and appreciated the system.The facility was supervised by Nodal officer (Video Conferencing) Abrar Ashraf and e-Court Staff.
