Over 30 per cent households without tap water in Bandipora

Tulail tops the list of areas in district with highest number of households without tap water

Over 30 percent households in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are without potable tap water connection, reveals a census report released by district administration Bandipora.According to wire service-Kashmir News Observer (KNO), out of total 45714 reported households, 31936 households (69.86 %) have functional tap water connection and 13778 households (30.13 %) are without tap water connection.The census report reveals that a total number of 25625 (56.05 %) households are receiving water as per 55 Liters Per Capita Daily (LPCD) norms while as 20089 (43.94 %) households are not receiving the water as per prescribed norms. The census report was released last week under Jal Jeevan Mission (2019) by district administration Bandipora during an official function at mini-secretariat Bandipora.District Bandipora has a total number of 12 CD-Blocks which include Aloosa, Arin, Bandipora, Bonakoot, Sumbal, Hajin, Naidkhai, Ganastan, Nowgam, Gurez, Tulail and Bagtore.Among these blocks Tulail block has the highest number of household which are without tap water. Out of total 2199, only 295 (13.42 %) households have tap water connection while rest 1904 (86.58 %) households are without tap water connection and standard water supply.

After Tulail block, Aloosa block has the highest number of households which are without potable tap water connection. Out of total 6838, 3177 (46.46 %) are without tap water connection and 3661(53.54 %) have functional tap water connection. Out of these 6838, 4002 households are without standard water supply while 2836 households receive standard water supply.According to the report copy of which is available with KNO, in block Aloosa, Malangam village has the highest number of households which are without tap water connection. Out of 1268, 707 (55.75 %) households are without functional tap water connection while 561 (44.24 %) households have tap water connection and out of the total 1268, 22 (0.02 %) households have standard water supply while 1246 (98.26 %) households are without standard water supply.In the year 2019 most number of cases of water borne diseases including enteric fever, acute diarrhea, bacillary dysentery and viral hepatitis were reported in Aloosa block while Malangam village suffered most due to Hepatitis E.Block Bagtore has maximum percentage of 86 % as functional tap water connections, followed by block Bandipore (86 %) and block Gurez (83 %). Block Bandipore receives highest 78 % adequate quantity of water, followed by block Bonakoot (72 %) and block Bagtore (70 %). The critical blocks are Tulail, Aloosa, Nowgam and Ganastan. (KNO)
