Balbir Singh Sidhu pays homage to martyrs of 1971 Indo-Pak War

Health Minister gives financial assistance of Rs. 5000 to each 35 family of martyrs from his salary

To mark the sacrifice of soldiers during the 1971 Indo-Pak war at the Fazilka Sector, a special event has been organised on Vijay Diwas at Asafwala War Memorial. The Health & Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu had paid the homage to the martyrs on this occasion.Addressing on the occasion, Cabinet Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said Captain-led-Punjab Government would provide every possible help to the ‘Smadh Committee’ to build up 70 feet Vijay Stambh at martyrs memorial. While providing financial assistance of Rs.5000 to each 35 family of martyrs from his Salary, the Minister said that we cannot pay for our martyrs who sacrificed their life for the country and the supreme sacrifice made by our jawans will be a source inspiration for the people of the country.He further said that it is because of our brave forces that we are enjoying status of freedom and sleep in peace and it is our duty to honour our arm forces and their families on such occasions. He also thanked the committee to organise this event which also spread awareness about our rich history and culture among youngsters and future generation.The Minister also honoured the members of family of martyrs and ex-servicemen. Earlier, Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu paid homage to the martyrs at the war memorial.Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr. ManpreetChatpal also said that district administration would provide the every possible financial help to the committee.Col. (Retired) SS Gill had shared the memories of 1971 Indo-Pak war and students had performed the patriotic and cultural programme.Pertinently, memorial had been built in the memory of soldiers of 1971 war where Vijay Diwas had been organised every year.
