Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora on Thursday said that during the tenure of the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, an investment of over rupees 50 thousand 403 crore has been made in the state leading to employment opportunities for nearly 1.7 lakh people of State. Shri Sunder Sham Arora was addressing domestic and international industrialists and businessmen after formally inaugurating the 14th Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX)-2019 being organised here by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Government of Punjab on Thursday. Shri Arora appreciated the event of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and said that such events should be expanded.He further said that the Punjab Government successfully organized the Invest Punjab Meet recently with a view to promote capital investment in the State and creating a better environment for industrialists.The auction in industrial centers like Channala (Kurali), Naya Nangal, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Patiala and Bathinda, witnessed good response. Investors have also shown interest in other cities like Amritsar, Tanda and Govindwal Sahib. This auction will meet the long-pending demand of industrialists to allot residential plots in industrial areas and they will get residential plots here. It will be expanded in the future.He also said that to promote Startup Culture in Punjab, it has been decided to set up a dedicated MSME Marketing Cell and a Rs 100 crore Startup Fund. Through MSME Cell, the competent, small and medium industrial units of Punjab will strengthen their business relations with neighboring states. He said that in order to promote the Startups, the government has decided to set up the fund in collaboration with IKG Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.
Earlier, while welcoming the Industries & Commerce Minister here, The President of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. DK Aggarwal said that PHD Chamber makes significant contribution to the economic development of the country by acting as a bridge between industries and government.Dr. Aggarwal further added that PITEX offers a unique platform to national and international businesses to showcase their products and enhance their network and it offers equal opportunity for big Corporates, MSMEs and Artisans to promote their products and services before large number of national and international visitors.PITEX shall be incredibly important for new businesses as it will be a great opportunity for them to get noticed. The event will introduce them to hundreds of potential customers. They will find their target audience under one roof.The current economic slowdown is the ideal time for the industry to showcase its presence on exhibition floor as the industry is very much in a position to reinforce its tenacity, strength and collaborative nature. In fact, in tough market conditions, it becomes all the more imperative for all businesses to show greater visibility, strong fundamentals and continuation of businesses. PITEX-2019 is an ideal platform for exhibitors to nurture the trust and confidence across the supply chain.Speaking at the function, District Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar Shivdular Singh Dhillon said that PITEX has now become the identity of Punjab. The district administration is extending all possible support for this event.Karan Gilhotra, Chairman of the Punjab State Chapter, Phd Chamber of Commerce and Industry, thanked the visiting guests & dignitaries and informed that the initiative, which was started in 2005, is being expanded every year. The number of people coming here is also increasing continuously. The event, organised under the direction of Dr Ranjeet Mehta, Principal Director of the Chamber, Paramjit Singh Batra, was attended by several dignitaries including the Local Convenor of PHD Chamber, Jaideep Singh.
