The Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday asked the health department to closely track high-risk pregnancy cases and make sure the pregnant women never miss a check-up and treatment progress monitored regularly.Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (Development) Mr Kulwant Singh, Me Sharma said that Jalandhar would be developed as Nodal district in regularly following the high-risk cases so that maternal deaths must be eliminated in the district.Mr Sharma asked the health department to increase medical camps for examination high-risk pregnancy cases, all identified pregnant women must be regularly followed by the health workers including auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) and accredited social health activists (ASHAs) and SMOs personally so that at the time of deliveries of these women, complications can be avoided and maternal mortality can be minimised.He said that Civil Surgeon office must also cross-check the facilities being given to high pregnant women by phoning them on which Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla added that comprehensive planning is being formulated to regularly track high-risk pregnancy cases.

He said that there must not be any case of maternal death in the district.The DC also told the health department to expedite the registration of the people under the Ayushman Bharat Sarbat Sehat Beema Yojna under which 2.91 lakh families of the district were entitled to cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in various empanelled hospitals.Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had launched this pro-people scheme on August 20. He said that under this scheme e-cards were being issued to the beneficiaries for cashless treatment under 1396 packages.Mr Sharma said that treatment under OPD was not included under this scheme but secondary and tertiary treatment would be fully covered under it. The Deputy Commissioner said that more than 36 major hospitals of the district have been empanelled under this scheme.On the occasion, ADC (D) Mr Kulwant Singh, DFWO Dr Surinder Kumar, District TB Officer Dr Rajiv Sharma, District Epidemiologist Dr Satish Kumar and others were present.
