It has been a month only when the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State’s Governor, Satya Pal Malik had promised of 24*7 power supply in this winter here, but the irksome situation being faced by the consumers in the Valley has put the question mark on the claims of the government. The consumers across the Valley have complained of unscheduled power cuts across the Valley from last week, who demanded the concerned Power Development Corporation to take steps so that they (consumers) could heave a sigh of relief.According to the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the consumers from different areas of Srinagar, its outskirts and other districts said that they are being forced to reel under darkness from last couple of days, leaving them to suffer. “We are facing immense hardships due to the non-availability of electricity for the maximum time in a day especially in evening hours,” the consumers said. The consumers said that the government in previous month had assured that the people across Jammu and Kashmir will receive 24*7 power supply in this winter, but the situation is averse on the ground. “The present J&K administration is no way different from the previous elected governments. Both the regimes have failed to provide adequate electricity to the people,” the consumers said. They later appealed the concerned department to ensure adequate electricity to the consumers so that they could heave a sigh of relief. Officials in the PDC however stated that the power cuts are the outcome of the load being put by the people. “We want the people to cooperate with us and not to out huge load so that we will be able to provide adequate electricity to the consumers across the Valley,” an official told KNO.Pertinently, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor, Satya Pal Malik on September 18, 2019, announced that J&K will get 24 hour power supply in coming winters. He made the announcement while addressing a gathering on the eve of inauguration of series of power projects at Raj Bhawan. (KNO)
