After 100 days, trains finally chugs on Kashmir tracks

After remaining suspended for 100 days, the train services were partially restored in Valley on Tuesday. Officials told the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the track from Srinagar- Banihal continued to remain suspended.Sources said that the train services from Srinagar-Banihal would likely be resumed on November 16.Train services were suspended in the Valley on August 5, when the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) was abrogated and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories.As per KNO, the trial-run from Srinagar-Baramulla was carried out on Monday under the supervision of top officials. Officials said that inspection of the train for the safety was also done while as tracks were made functional yesterday for smooth run of train services.It is worth to mention here that the Divisional Commissioner Kashir, Baseer Ahmad Khan had ordered the resumption of train services from November 11 while stating that the trial-run will be carried out on November 10. As train services resumed partially from Srinagar to Baramulla and vice-versa, people heave a sigh of relief, who had to face hardships while reaching their respective destinations via train.“Due to my business related issues, I often travel to the Baramulla and always prefer train services. But, due to its suspension for a long, I was facing hardships to reach Baramulla,” a passenger told KNO. Some of the students and employees echoed similar views. Pertinently, the railway authorities suffered a huge loss due to the suspension of train services in Kashmir since August 5. (KNO)
