The efforts to turn 19000 government schools of Punjab as smart schools are on fast pace and NRIs, social workers and entrepreneurs are being motivated to achieve this goal. This was disclosed by the Education Minister of Punjab Vijay Inder Singla while addressing the function organised at the Government Senior Secondary School (Girls) here today. On this occasion Education Minister distributed infra equipment to more than 100 government schools to make them smart and also distributed sports kits to 35 government schools.On this occasion Mr. Singla said that the people of Punjab, who have emigrated to abroad, must have the desire to provide financial support for the schools of their villages and large number of NRIs do so. Rest of NRIs also should come forward to support the upgradation of government schools as smart schools. Blocks of such schools will be named after the elders of such families or whom they would like.Cabinet Minister said that the efforts of holistic development of all primary, middle and high secondary schools of Punjab, are on fast pace and within one year these schools will lead in providing best education. He said that the scheme of naming blocks on the names of other donors including social workers, has been getting a good response across Punjab and a flexible policy has been brought by the education department to implement this scheme in a well manner.

The Cabinet Minister said that the transfer policy of teachers was implemented successfully across the state to improve the education system. Mr. Singla said that he is personally honoring the hard working teachers in districts to encourage them to make the Punjab number one in education sector.Cabinet Minister said that the scheme to close the schools having very less students and shift the students to nearby government schools is on the cards. Under such scheme student will get free transportation facility. Drinking water and sanitation is also on the top priority in government schools, Mr. Singla added.While answering a question of reporters about the protest of teachers, Cabinet Minister said that every problem could be solved through dialogue. He said that proposals have already been made to move the demands of various unions into Cabinet and a road map could be made on those demands, which could not be resolved immediately. He appealed to unions to come forward for talks instead of agitation.Meanwhile, the Cabinet Minister also inaugurated the construction work of a basketball playground at the Government Senior Secondary School (Girls) dedicated to 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.On the occasion, Chairman Improvement Trust Mr. Naresh Gaba, District Education Officer (Secondary) Mr. Subhash Chandra, District Education Officer (Primary) Mrs. Paramjit Kaur and other were present.
