Hails district admin for successful implementation of Market Intervention Scheme

Advisor to Governor, Farooq Ahmad Khan today visited Anantnag district and convened a meeting here to review progress achieved under Agriculture, Horticulture, RDD and Education sectors.The meeting was attended by Secretary Agriculture Production Manzoor Ahmad Lone, Director Agriculture Kashmir Altaf Aijaz Indrabi, Director Horticulture Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture Riyaz Ahmad Wani and other sectoral officers of the line departments.During the meeting, the Advisor complimented the district administration for faring well progress in the Agriculture and allied sectors and effective implementation of recently launched Market Intervention Scheme.He further stated that Horticulture Sector can be a game changer for the overall economic development of the region and special emphasis be given to promotion of high- density plantation. He also directed branding of the Agriculture products like Honey, Apple and Walnut.Advisor Khan also hailed the efforts of the field functionaries of the Agriculture, Horticulture, and Rural Development Departments for their active performance in implementing various centrally sponsored schemes like PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM Kissan Mandan and PMAY.He directed ACD Anantnag to ensure cent percent completion of RDD works up to the end of December 2019. He directed CEO Anantnag to ensure rationalization of teaching staff in schools, holding of awareness camps and opening of school playgrounds from 4 pm to 06 pm for local youth.On the occasion, District Development Commissioner Khalid Jahangir briefed the Advisor about the progress achieved under sectors like Agricultural, Horticulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries, RDD and Education in the district.The meeting was informed that total agriculture area of the district is 66335 hectares which includes 38756.75 hectares under Kharief crop and 26279 hectares under Rabi crop.
Besides 24036.97 hectares have been brought under paddy cultivation, while as 10676 hectares under maize, 1678 hectares under pulses and 1454 hectares are under oil seeds in the district.With regard to cultivation of high yielding varieties, 1467 quintals of paddy seeds, 20.94 quintals vegetable seeds, 407 quintals of maize, 4.22 quintals of pulses and 501 quintals of fodder were distributed by the department during the current fiscal, the meeting was told.The Advisor was also briefed about the progress achieved under PM KISAN Samman Nidi under which out of 85265 beneficiaries, 661912 beneficiaries have been already uploaded. The first instalment has been credited to 34080 beneficiaries, second instalment to 24760 beneficiaries and third instalment in favour of 21198 beneficiaries stands disbursed.Under Apiculture sector, 19778 bee colonies/hives are functional under private sector and production of honey during the current year has been recorded 2175.58 quintals in the district generating a revenue of Rs 543.98 lakh, the meeting was informed.Similarly, under recently launched Marketing Intervention Scheme 134000 apple boxes have been procured at Fruit Mandi Batengoo and a payment of Rs 2.50 crores have been made in favour of the fruit growers. The Department of Horticulture has distributed 19 Irrigation Pumps and 20 Tube wells worth Rs 3.23 lakh to the orchardists of the district and emphasis is being laid on high-density plantation.With regard to RDD sector, Advisor Khan was informed that 329 works have been taken up during 2019-2020, besides 234 playfields have been developed and inaugurated during the ‘Back to Village’ programme.It was said that under PMAY, first instalment of Rs 1156.50 lakh stands disbursed in favour of 2313 beneficiaries, second instalment of Rs 1022.50 lakh in favour of 2045 beneficiaries and third instalment of Rs 512.70 lakhs stands disbursed through DBT in favour of 1709 beneficiaries.During the meeting, issues related to completion of auditorium hall at GHSS Dooru, Hostel facility at Polytechnic College Larkipora, renovation/repairs, provision of funds to the tune of Rs 35 lakhs for construction of incomplete fencing of the Polytechnic College, sanctioning of five vegetable clusters for the district, marketing facility for Mushkbudji and enhancement in the quota of bee keeping, sheep raring units and bulk milk plants under dairy sector were deliberated upon.The Advisor, on the occasion, gave consent to the establishment of mobile soil testing lab and assured that the government will provide all possible support to the district administration in carrying forward developmental process and implementation of various welfare programmes.He directed the officers to work with coordination and added zeal and zest and address issues and grievances of the general public on priority.
