All forms of protests banned till normalcy returns in Kashmir: J&K Police chief

The Jammu and Kashmir police has banned all forms of protests- including sit-ins, in Kashmir Valley till normalcy returns and restrictions are completely lifted.The police said that their efforts would be to stabilize peace further before any such activity is allowed“No protests of any form, including sit-ins, will be allowed in Kashmir till the situation improves and the restrictions in the Kashmir are completely lifted,” J&K police Chief Dilbagh Singh told wire service— Kashmir News Observer (KNO).Jammu and Kashmir police Chief Dilbagh Singh told NDTV that their effort would be to stabilise peace further before any such activity is allowed.The police chief said that some placards carried by women protesters last week were not "very good" and that they certainly had law and order implications.The police chief was referring on Tuesday’s protest carried by dozens of women, including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah's sister and daughter, social activists and academicians. The women were arrested for holding a sit-in against the revocation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 by Government of India.The women academicians and activists, most of them aged between 60 and 80 years, were detained by the police and paramilitary contingent at Press Enclave, Lal Chowk, Srinagar.The detained women were kept at Srinagar’s Central Jail for one night and were released next day after furnishing personal bonds.These women had carried out the largest protest in Kashmir post abrogation of Article 370.The police Chief was quoted as saying that provocations do not come only through words which you speak. “Provocation comes from the placards which you carry," he said as per KNO."Absolutely no protests will be allowed. Maybe when the situation further improves, we will see.
