Director Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat today chaired a meeting to review the working of Horticulture Sector and progress achieved under various schemes in Kashmir.Deputy Director Central, Assistant Director Horticulture, Accounts Officer, Chief Horticulture Officers, Executive Engineer, Horticulture (P&M) Construction Division Srinagar and other Officers attended the meeting.Scheme-wise expenditure was reviewed and accordingly Director Horticulture directed the officers to utilize the funds judiciously and properly and also ensure 70% expenditure by end of October 2019. During the course of meeting all Chief Horticulture officers were directed to identify the small and marginal farmers to be covered under high density plantation programme in next five years. He said that the Government is very much particular to convert old and senile orchards into high density plantation in coming years in a phased manner. Progress of various developmental works in the departmental nurseries viz fencing, land development, irrigation infrastructure and creation of post quarantine facility for imported fruit plants and other works was reviewed during the meeting. While taking the review of Zainapora Farm, strict instructions were given to Farm Manager, ACHD Zainapora to ensure development of the prestigious project on scientific lines. Chief Horticulture Officers (CHO) were instructed to guide fruit growers about scientific harvesting and grading. Directions were given to trained unemployed youth about latest pruning techniques.
