Two day State Level seminar on Elderly Issues concludes

The two day State Level seminar on Elderly Issues organised by National Institute of Social Defence, Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, and supported by J&K State Legal Services Authority in association with Anugraha Regional Resource and Training Center on Ageing, Delhi, concluded here today.Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu, Vinod Chatterji Koul worthy and Chairperson Anugraha, Dr. Aabha Chaudhary chaired valedictory ceremony.Pertinently, the event was inaugurated by Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority, yesterday. Shwetambari Sharma DSP, Headquarter, Jammu, Rajeev Khajuria, Founder Emeritus, NDF, Jammu, Dr. Aarti Bakshi, HOD Psychology and  Dr. Sapna K Sangra HOD  Sociology university of Jammu,  Zorawar Singh Jamwal chairperson team Jammu.The programme started with Technical Session pertaining to   "Issues impacting Rights, Safety and Security of Senior Citizens: Physical Safety and Financial Security" which was conducted by Shwetambari  Sharma and Rajeev Khajuria who sensitized the audience about the safety and security of senior citizens and defined various  Government and State  Government sponsored welfare schemes for senior citizens such as  Integrated programs for older Persons, Indira Gandhi National old age Pension scheme, National program for health care & elderly and National Policy for Senior citizens 2011 etc.

Dr. Arti Bakshi and Dr. Sapna K Sangra spoke in the fourth Technical Session on Psychological and social issues impacting elderly, family adjustments and intergenerational bonding and highlighted the ongoing conflict, disagreement & distance among youth & elderly.This seminar received extensive participation and drew huge response from over 290 participants including Judicial officers, lawyers, senior citizens,  officers from civil and police administration, NGOs, students and faculty members from various private & govt. Educational institutions of Jammu province,  Sarpanchs  and Panchs from different Blocks  gave positive outlook to the ageing rather than liability.Deepak Sethi, Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu also spoke on the occasion.Besides, Ajay Salaan, DSWO Jammu  senior citizens who were present on the occasion included KB Jandial, O.P Gupta and Rajinder Singh.In the concluding remarks, Dr. Aabha Chaudhary, Chairperson, Anugraha announced conducting more such awareness programs in near future to connect the youth and elderly.The proceedings of the programme were conducted by  Jyoti Majotra and Slahuddin Ahmed Khan, Additional Mobile Magistrate, Traffic Jammu  and concluded with votes of  thanks by Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Jammu.
