DDC reviews progress on academic work, infra dev of GMC B’la

District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo today chaired a meeting of officers of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla to discuss various aspects for the smooth and proper academic functioning in the college in wake of prevailing situation.Meeting was attended by Principal GMC Dr Abdul Hameed, Medical Superintendent Dr Syed Masood, heads of various departments, district and sectoral officers and other concerned.On the occasion, a comprehensive discussion on the subject was held during which Principal GMC highlighted several issues and bottlenecks confronting the smooth functioning of the college through a power point presentation. He said that the college is lacking proper accommodation facility for the students and faculty members. He also said that the parking slot in the institution needs further upgradation for the hassle free movement of commuters.Moreover, Principal highlighted the problem of tele-communication and said that lack of communication creates a lot of inconvenience for the faculty members. He demanded a separate telephone exchange for the institution so that prompt communication network is established for better service delivery. Other issues and demands highlighted by the Principal included encroachment removal from the main road leading to the hospital and transport facility for the staff members.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC assured that every possibility shall be explored for the effective functioning of the hospital. He directed the concerned authorities to ply a separate SRTC bus for ferrying the staff members. He also said that the demand of separate telephone exchange shall be taken up with the concerned authorities. He also directed to put in place every arrangement for the students so that their educational pursuits are not affected.Dr Itoo directed the college authorities to resume the classwork from October 14,2019. He also appealed the parents to send their children to the college from the scheduled date.Later, the DDC accompanied by the concerned officers inspected various blocks and sections in order to review the pace and position of construction work. He was informed that work on the major blocks has been completed whereas remaining work is in its final phase. He emphasized upon the concerned agencies to speed up the pace of remaining work. He also asked for mobilizing additional men and machinery and stressed for working with synergy and cooperation so that the academic work in the college is not hampered.
