Union Secretary DEPwD holds discussions with CS other Govt functionaries

A high level delegation led by Union Secretary Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shakuntala D Gamlin visited Srinagar and held discussions with the Chief Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary Social Welfare and Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and other senior officials.She urged the State Government to implement various provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and frame rules under the said Act. She also requested wide publicity be given to all the Central Schemes especially DDRS, ADIP, UDID and scholarships so that no eligible divyang beneficiary is left out.The Union Secretary assured to depute an expert team to review and advise in handling the increasing physcho-social problem in the state especially among traumatic children who have lost a member in their families.Later, the Secretary DEPwD interacted with the representatives of NGOs working in the field of disability who informed about various activities undertaken by them. She called upon them to closely work with government agencies for extending various benefits to the divyangjan.The Union Secretary also visited Composite Regional Centre, Srinagar which is the Rehabilitation Resource Centre functioning under the central government. She said that steps will be taken to improve rehabilitation services, introduce new RCI courses and start a preparatory school at the Centre.
